U.S. Census 1970: People of Spanish Origin or Descent in NYC
Dublin Core
Title
U.S. Census 1970: People of Spanish Origin or Descent in NYC
Subject
A Social Explorer map focusing on U.S. Census data for people in NYC of Spanish origin or descent.
Description
Based on Social Explorer, this map focuses on five key concentrations of Puerto Ricans (or Spanish speakers) in NYC. Notably, the map tracks people of Spanish origin or descent. This category may broadly encompass people from or with descent from Latin America, the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, Spain, former Spanish territories, or other Spanish-speaking countries throughout the world. Although generally broad, the five neighborhoods, based on 1960 census data, will be assumed to not have changed drastically in their count of Puerto Ricans. However, this may suggest a growing mix of other Spanish groups, predominantly Cubans or Dominicans.
The category of 'descent' also highlights the possibility of second or third generation Spanish speakers or Puerto Ricans.
